I have been a GP with a special interest in women’s health for almost 30 years. I’ve worked at Glastonbury Surgery since 2002 where I see patients for general GP services and hold a Menopause Clinic and a Young People’s Clinic. I also fit coils and contraceptive implants at the surgery. I’m married to another GP with 3 grown up sons.
I’m passionate about improving the care of women in the perimenopause and menopause, by educating other health professionals and informing women so that they know what symptoms may occur and how to improve them. For the vast majority of women the benefits of HRT outweigh the risks and every woman needs to know the facts so she can make the decisions that are right for her.
I’m a member of the British Menopause Society and a full associate member of the International Menopause Society. I work within both their guidelines and the NICE Menopause Guidelines of 2015. I have completed the Menopause Special Skills Modules run by the British Menopause Society. I am currently doing the practical training for the Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care, developed by the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare in partnership with the British Menopause Society.
I’m a member of the Royal College of GPs and the Primary Care Women’s Health Forum. I’m a Diplomate of both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare.
I keep up to date by networking with other doctors with a special interest in the menopause, attending meetings and conferences (although now video meetings and webinars during the time of Covid-19) and reading medical journals.
